Self-reliance
I grow up under the influence of chinese society, therefore I cannot agree to this philosophy. Maybe it is because we are really family-oriented. Unlike the americans, Chinese people always put their family on the first priority. It is common to see people in hong kong live with their family till they get married. Not saying that we are not capable to take care of ourself, but you know Hong Kong is a much much smaller place than the US ,and so it is remarkably expensive to rent an apartment (see we only lives in apartment) which is not a 18 yrs old or a college student can afford. Moreover, your parents are the closest people to you on Earth, would you really want to leave them alone and never come back?

You spend time with each other and it will make you feel you are needed.
Sure, I think, in general, Asian put thier group first, unlike American and Westen, they put their personal first ^^
ReplyDeleteI agree your opinion. Because I am also Asian, I know our attitude involving personal relationship that we consider group is more important than individual. However, Sometimes I felt that individual's opinion and behavior are neglected by group. Therefore, we need to weight both of them.
